The Price of Dignity arranges clay breast forms on a banana leaf bedded in rice, creating an altar-like field where the body becomes both offering and testimony. Rooted in the story of Nangeli—who resisted a caste-imposed breast tax—the installation stains rice and leaf with natural pigments, marking the cost of dignity under caste and colonial rule. Through these humble, tactile materials, the work holds the weight of a tax paid in flesh, transforming a history of violence into a quiet, devotional space of mourning, defiance, and remembrance.
Paintings, works on paper, and sculptural elements accompany the installation, extending its themes of embodiment, rupture, and resistance across surface and form.
