The UnshadowedĀ is a site-specific installation, a suspended field of coconut coir and clay breast forms arranged in a triangleāfair breasts at the top to darker and black forms at the base. This vertical gradient mirrors caste and color hierarchies, while the coir that threads each body echoes labor, ritual, and the weight of inherited structures.
At the base, a broken black breast rests in turmericāreversing its historic use to police purity and reclaiming it as a ground of dignity for those once deemed polluting even in shadow. Together, the materials form a quiet architecture where histories of touch, purity, and resistance become palpable.
Paintings and a stop-motion animation accompany the installation, extending its investigation of caste, ritual, and embodied memory into gesture, movement, and surface.
